A free election would foil Putin's chances to reconstitute the former Communist empire formerly known as the Soviet Union, a free Ukraine would put NATO countries on Russia's borders without any buffers. I'm not surprized that Putin, a former KGB operative and Communist opposes Yushenko's plan for a new election.
