In what was the largest pro-independence demonstration in Lebanon since the recent drive began to oust occupying Syrian troops, between 70,000 and 100,000 residents gathered today in Beirut to protest. Shouting "Freedom! Sovereignty! Independence!" thousands thronged the city as Syria began withdrawing its troops.
