Ganji Freed

AFP
Iran's most prominent political prisoner, dissident Akbar Ganji, was released late Friday night after six years in prison.

Growing internal pressures inside Iran, union strikes, continued reports of corrupted public officials and myriad other troubles have been mounting for months. My guess is the mullahs met with their PR guys and decided to throw the peasants a bone. Ganji was scheduled to be released at the end of the month anyway, still it's a good day for the citizens of Iran. The bad news is, the oppressive regime that jailed Ganji for his words is still entrenched in Tehran. Akbar Ganji is no more free to speak today (and probably a lot less so) than he was the day before he was jailed six years ago.
and the beat goes on.
